Ushma Haria

Plant-based diets are becoming increasingly popular, with more and more families deciding to raise their children vegan or plant-based right from the beginning.
My name is Ushma I am a first time mum and nutritionist and follow a strict plant-based diet, primary for cultural and religious reasons as our philosophy teaches us about conscious cooking.
I'm lucky to be a mum to a lively and affectionate almost 2 year old little boy and the star of my posts . My background is in nutrition. I have a Nutrition BSc from the University of Nottingham and worked in medical nutrition marketing for over 10 years before moving on to fertility a year ago.
Prior to having a baby, I rarely thought about my own nutritional needs. Being born and raised in London, my husband and I focused on our careers, amongst other things and I realised I had never properly learnt the basics, especially when it came to cooking Indian vegetarian food which is the backbone of my plant based diet. I only realise now how my Gujarati upbringing has had a huge impact on my confidence to raise my son on a balanced plant based diet and that watching my mother and grandmother cook as child was subconsciously preparing me for the future. #gujaratifood
I am an amateur cook learning as I go and I thought I would share my journey to help anyone else in a similar position. I'm so surprised at how much I have learnt in such a short space of time and I hope the page continues to provide inspiration as my son grows.
